Different Types of Flooring Materials Available in India

Apart from marble & tiles, there are multiple flooring material options available in India. These vary in terms of cost, durability, aesthetics & maintenance. 

1. Concrete 

Concrete floors are cost effective and the most common type of flooring in India. Concrete floors are mostly damage resistant and can last for decades.  Various types of chips and stones can be embedded in concrete flooring to enhance the look.

 

2. Marble

Marble is available in a wide range of colors ( white, grey, pink) and patterns and is the most popular flooring options for a luxury look. Marble is easy to maintain and can last for 25-30 years easily.

However, given the vast variety of options available, choosing the right & good quality marble can be difficult for the common man. Low quality marble may turn yellow over time. Marble flooring is generally a bit costly.

3. Vitrified Tiles

Vitrified tiles have gained popularity over time as they are cheaper than marble or wooden flooring and are suitable for both interior & exterior use. They can look like natural materials and are available in a wide range of patterns and finishes.  They are available in glossy, matte, and anti-skid finishes.

Vitrified tiles are easy to install, maintain and are durable. 

4. Granite

Granite is a naturally occurring stone and is resistant to scratches and stains. It is known for its durability and luxurious appearance.  Available in various colors ( black, grey, red, green, brown, beige) & patterns, it is easy to maintain and keeps a cool temperature. It is well suited for indoor and outdoor floors. 

5. Vinyl

Vinyl is a stylish and affordable alternative to expensive wood flooring. Vinyl flooring is made from PVC plastic and is one of the most durable types of flooring in India . It is strain & water resistant and keeps the floor warmer. 

6. Wooden laminate

Wooden laminate is an affordable alternative to pure wood flooring. It is easy to install, gives the appearance of true wood and hence a feel of luxury home interior.  It is resistant to stains & molds but can fade over time. 

7. Mosaic flooring

Mosaic flooring is made up of granite and marble chips that are placed in concrete. It has a retro look, is highly durable and easy to maintain. Mosaic flooring installation can be tough and should be done by an experienced professional. 

8. Red Oxide flooring

Red oxide flooring is much loved due to its timeless and elegant look. As red oxide is easy to maintain and cost-effective, it’s a popular option in warm and tropical climates.

You can choose it from specific areas of your home and blend it with rugs & planters to get a colorful look.
